Area of Study (2008 – 09):
I. Survey work:There are 55 GPs at 6 blocks of 2 districts which were considered for survey work. Mal, Metali and Nagrakata blocks in Jalpaiguri district and Mograhat – I, Mograhat – II and Diamondharbour – I blocks in South 24 Parganas district were considered for survey work.The survey work will be done to all the householders in a selected village of each GP of the specified blocks, where Mal block have 12 GPs, Metali 5 GPs, Nagrakata 5 GPs, Mograhat – I 11GPs, Mograhat – II 14 GPs and Diamondharbour – I block have 8 GPs.
II. Experimental Work:
1. Two SHGs in each GP of selected blocks in the selected districts.
2. 160 SHGs or 1600 householders (approx.) considering 10 members in each SHG of the selected
villages in a GP.
Area of Study (2009 – 10):
Paschim Medenipur district has been considered as new study area. Medenipur Sadar block (9GPs), Kharagpur – I block (7GPs) and Keshiary block (9GPs) having total 25 GPs are included as study area from 2009 – 10. Considering the same experimental design 2 SHGs will be selected in each GP. So, experimental work will be considered on 50 SHGs. There are variable numbers of member in each SHG with a range of 10 – 20. The average number may be considered as 14. Hence, total 700 householders are to be considered for experimental work in backyard poultry farming unit by this project.
New Study area (proposed for the year 2010 – 11):
Dakshin Dinajpur district may be considered as new study area from 2010 – 11. Further, Zilla Parishad of South 24 Parganas district approached to include the Bishnupur – I block (11GPs) & Sagar Block (12GPs) in the project from 2010 – 11.
