BRIEF REPORT
An amount of Rs. 306.82 (Rupes three hundred and six lakh and eighty two thousand only) has been sanctioned vide no151/5-ARD/5M-06/07 dt.20.11.08 of ARD Department of Govt. of West Bengal. Fifty percent of the amount i. e Rs. 153.41 (Rupees one hundred fifty-three lakh and forty one thousand only) was received by the University (vide no. 253-AR & AH(Scheme)/Sanction (SP)/ 4A-87/2008 dt. 15.12.08) of ARD Department of Govt. of West Bengal. Separate Bank account was also opened for the same.
One block level committee and one district level committee was formed at each block and each district. BLDO of the concerned block and Savapati of the concerned Panchyayet Samiti is the Convener and Chairman respectively of block level committee. Savadhipati is the Chairman and one of the Co-PI is the Convener of the district level committee. Panchayet personnel of the different tire, ARD staffs of different level, DM / BDO representative and Scientists of the project and PI of the project are the members of such committees. Modalities of work along with the power and responsibilities of such committees were also finalized. The committees were also decided the plan of action for smooth implantation of project. The university Officials along with the scientists involved for the project were reviewed the plan and programme of the project work time to time and also reported accordingly to the ARD Dept. of the Govt. of West Bengal.
One unique Logo, Backyard Poultry Farming Calendar, Daily Record Register for the Backyard Poultry Farmer, Monitoring schedule is already developed. Specific village for the project work were already selected. Surveyors, Key Communicator were also selected. They are provided project kit which includes Identity card, Cap, working manual and schedule of work etc. Flex, sticker and leaflet for proper awareness about the project was already circulated within the project area. Training programme, Survey work, awareness programme, repair and renovation work, purchasing of equipments and other essential materials for the project work including Backyard Farming Management Booklet, selection of site for different work are in progress.
Specific villages, Surveyor and Key Communicators from 55 GPs from 6 blocks of 2 districts viz. Jalpaiguri (Mal block 12 GPs, Metali block 5 GPs and Nagrakata block 5 GPs) and South 24 Parganas (Mograhat – I block 11GPs, Mograhat – II block 14 GPs and Diamondharbour – I block 8 GPs) districts were selected. Training programme for Jalpaiguri district was conducted on 11.02.09. Training for the ARD and Panchayet personnel of Jalpaiguri district was also conducted on 12.02.09.
New Study area (proposed for the year 2009 – 10) – Paschim Medenipur district may be considered as new study area under Red & Laterite zone. Medenipur Sadar block (9GPs), Kharagpur – I block (7GPs) and Keshiary block (9GPs) having total 25 GPs may be included as study area from 2009 – 10. Further, Zilla Parishad of South 24 Parganas district approached to include the Bishnupur – I block (11GPs) in the project from 2009 – 10.
Hence, total 91 GPs under 10 blocks of 3 district will be considered for this project. Considering the same principle 2 SHGs will be selected in each GP. So, experimental work will be considered on 182 SHGs. There are variable numbers of member in each SHG with a range of 10 – 20. The average number may be considered as 14. Hence, total 2548 householders are to be considered for experimental work in backyard poultry farming unit.
About 6, 42, 982 Man-days are to be created each year by this project from 2009 – 10.
