The present study aims to carry out the following objectives:
- Evaluation, Development and Refinement of sustainable and integrated backyard poultry farming system for the economic upliftment of the poor and unskilled rural community emphasizing self help group (SHG) activity in some underprivileged districts of West Bengal.
- Implementation and linking of identified and proven technologies by optimum utilization of local resources to establish sustainable backyard poultry production system.
- Creation of profitable marketing avenues for the generated backyard poultry production by establishing small scale animal product processing unit with suitable storage facilities at the grass root level.
- Generation of employment avenues for the rural poor especially landless women and backward community by backyard poultry practice along with its downstream and ancillary industries aimed to prevent the exodus of rural people to the urban areas.
- Improvement of livelihood through skill and capacity building in view to develop a “model” with networking and integration of gathered information.
- Development of a database exclusive for different aspects of the sustainable backyard poultry farming system.
