The following achievements could be achieved by the project-

a. At State Level – A model for sustainable backyard poultry farming will be developed for West Bengal for future propagation.

b. At District level – A potential poultry marketing system will be developed along with different support systems at micro level viz. feed plant, hatchery etc. to make sustainable backyard farming.

c. In Rural areas – Improvement of the livelihood by introduction of a model backyard poultry farming system. Development of concept of eco-friendly and scientific organic farming.

d. At WBUAFS – Different poultry development wings viz. training institute, health monitoring laboratory, poultry breeding farm, Hatchery, Global Information System etc. will be developed which enrich the knowledge of faculties of the University. Students will also get more direct exposure about different system involved in poultry farming. Development of a State Level Poultry Research Institute for further refining of the developed technology.

e. Enhancement of poultry production
   (i) Egg production will be increased 20 – 30 % in the project work areas
   (ii) Poultry meat production rate will be increased 10 – 20 % in the project work areas.


f. Income generation
   (i) The price rate of egg and meat will be increased 10-20% as a quality food item.
   (ii) The price of live poultry bird will be increased 5-10% due to its value added product preparation
        and use of offal.

   (iii) About 5-10% income increased of the stakeholder by proper utilizing poultry manure, dead  
        birds and spent hens.

   (iv) About 30 – 40 % income increased from integrated fish farming

g. Social impact
   (i) Nutritional security especially animal protein to the mother and child.
   (ii) Self dependency of women.
   (iii) Minimum land utilization for better livelihood.
   (iv) Awareness of organic farming system and clean environment.
   (v) Proper utilization of idle manpower in a family and transformation of unskilled workforce to a skill
        workforce.

   (vi) Prevention the exodus of rural people to urban areas.
   (vii) Proper utilization of local resources for better livelihood.
   (viii) Formation a ‘Model’ to improve livelihood through a sustainable integrated backyard poultry
        farming system acceptable to different socio-economic status and land holders of rural mass
        particularly for the poor and backward communities of the society.


h. Asset generation
Resources will be generated through the project like – a) Organic poultry product producing system, b) Organic cultivable land, c) Sustainable replicating integrated backyard poultry husbandry practices model, d) Skilled manpower for improved animal husbandry practices and e) Abattoir, Meat Processing Plant, Feed Plant, Hatchery, Bio-gas Plant
